Gimblett’s Guide to the Best of British Cheeses by Francis Gimblett, CANCELLED

Say ‘cheese’! Join cheesemaker Francis Gimblett, as he talks about his new book Gimblett’s Guide to the Best of British Cheeses and makes you smile with anecdotes from the 100-day tour he took on during a winter break from cheesemaking duties to visit his top 100 British cheesemakers, interview them and taste and photograph their cheeses for the guide. The cost of the undertaking meant camping in the roof tent of his Land Rover, in sub-zero temperatures, floods and a hurricane – at one point requiring an army rescue in the Brecon Beacons!.

Francis Gimblett  is an innovator in the field of fine tasting experiences and has spent over thirty years selling, making, teaching and entertaining with artisan food and drink.

In 1987 he became the country’s youngest head sommelier at a five-star hotel, a year after he was legally entitled to drink. After subsequent periods in fine wine broking then winemaking overseas, he formed the events company Taste of the Vine with his wife Pam. The company has since staged over 3000 wine, cheese, whisky, ale, cider and other fermentation-based events in 47 countries over 23 years. The passion for cheese overtook others and he and Pam started cheesemaker Gimblett Cheese after two years research and trials.  In 2020, he launched the #CampaignforBritishArtisanCheese – a campaign to raise awareness of an increase the number of British artisan cheesemakers.

Gimblett’s Guide to the Best of British Cheeses is the first published guide which aims to do for cheese what wine guides have done for the best wines each year. This book not only highlights the very best in British cheesemaking but also provides the cheesemakers’ stories & tasting notes to enhance your enjoyment of the best artisan cheeses available in the UK today.
