In stock

The Duberly Collection of Chinese art was formed between 1947 and 1970, and bequeathed to Winchester College in 1978.

It includes pieces from the 7th to the early 20th centuries. The collection consists mostly of ceramics, including superb pieces of imperial porcelain from the Ming and Qing dynasties, but there are also important examples of jade, lacquer and metalwork.

This complete catalogue is the first publication devoted to the Duberly Collection. Every item is described and illustrated, and full provenance details are included. An appendix on signs and symbols in Chinese art is based upon extensive research undertaken by Major Duberly. The author, Anthony du Boulay (C, 1943-46) is one of the country’s foremost experts on Chinese art and was for many decades Head of Ceramics at Christie’s.
