Bookseller - Retail Operations

We are currently seeking the right person to provide operational support within our small team. This role will focus on the effective application of our sales and stock management and other systems to:

  • assist with customer queries and purchases in the shop, by phone and online
  • confirm customer, event and routine stock orders, place in a timely manner
    securing the best deals from suppliers and track to completion
  • check and log in goods received and deal with damaged or missing stock
  • process routine and other returns to suppliers
  • dispatch orders to customers
  • coordinate stock management best practice, including annual and interim
    stocktakes
  • support colleagues as needed across all aspects of our business operations,
    including book-related events both in the shop and in other venues.

The work pattern for this role will be a minimum of 35 hours per week across 5 days,
usually Monday to Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required.

While based mainly in our College Street bookshop, you will at times be expected to work offsite.

The role could be suitable for an apprenticeship.

Note that this role will include some heavy work and lifting.

Children's Bookseller (Part-time)

We are currently seeking an assistant Bookseller with a passionate interest in children’s, teen and YA titles to work alongside our existing team, in particular to cover weekends. Key responsibilities will be to assist with:

  • customer queries and purchases in the shop, by phone and online
  • daily replenishment of shop stock, ensuring displays remain tidy and inviting for our customers
  • confirming customer, event and routine stock orders and placing with suppliers
  • checking and logging in goods received
  • book-related events in the shop, at schools – particularly around World Book Day in March – and in other venues
  • supporting colleagues as needed across other aspects of our business
    operations.

The role will be 18 to 24 hours per week including Saturdays and Sundays. Occasional work on evenings and other days through the week will be required.

While based mainly in our College Street bookshop, you will at times be expected to work offsite.
